The Quiet Rollback of Student Sanctions
July 15, 2024
One week ago, Harvard reversed suspensions and probation for multiple students advocating for Palestinian lives, thanks to significant student and faculty pressure. However, some graduate students still face sanctions, and Harvard continues to withhold degrees from 13 seniors unfairly.
This victory highlights the power of student organizing in the face of injustice. Students faced escalating harassment, intimidation, and racist hate speech for advocating Palestinian rights. These arbitrary sanctions betray Harvard's core academic values. Reversing them when the spotlight is off only emphasizes the original violation. We honor the students for their leadership and relentless commitment to our collective moral duty to end genocide.
And finally, FSJP is dedicated to healing our community, and we refuse to be silent supporters of genocide committed in our name and with our financial support.
